A Visual Journey Through the Architecture of Oscar Niemeyer

“Niemeyer” through the lens of Juan Carlos Vega: a photographic exploration of the living memory of an essential master.

A Visual Journey Through the Architecture of Oscar Niemeyer

Niemeyer Legacy at the Ortega y Marañón Foundation

From 8 to 31 January 2026, Madrid’s Ortega y Marañón Foundation presents Niemeyer Legacy, an exhibition by photographer Juan Carlos Vega dedicated to the Brazilian architect Oscar Niemeyer, one of the great masters of 20th-century modern architecture.

A Photographic Tribute to Oscar Niemeyer

A visual exploration of Niemeyer’s work

The exhibition offers a visual journey through some of Niemeyer’s most iconic buildings, from Belo Horizonte and Brasília — a UNESCO World Heritage Site — to São Paulo and Niterói, extending its international gaze to Milan and Asturias. Through artistic photography, video art and image deconstruction processes, the show reflects on the architectural legacy of Niemeyer and its enduring relevance today.

Design, Art and Photography: the Ibiza Armchair by Jacobo Ventura

Juan Carlos Vega shares a close personal and creative friendship with the Ventura brothers, a relationship that is subtly present throughout Niemeyer Legacy. As a nod to this bond, the exhibition gives pride of place to the Ibiza armchair, designed by Jacobo Ventura — an iconic piece of contemporary design. For this occasion, it has been upholstered in a fabric intervened by Vega himself, featuring one of his photographs printed onto the textile, beautifully merging furniture, art and photography into a single object.
